5 Perks Of Being A Very Tall Girl

Most shorter girls feel so obligated to wear heels all the time, but not me!

Since I can remember, I've always been a tall girl. From being in the back row of every choir concert to constantly being asked to reach the top shelves while working at Starbucks, I've been 5'10 for about 6 years now, and honestly... its pretty awesome. I can't wear heals without looking inhuman and honestly don't ever want too. I have never been able to touch my toes because my legs out grew my arm at a young age. Being tall has been a part of my identity for as long as I can remember, so here are five reasons being a tall girl rocks.

1. Always being able to reach the top shelf

As a long time barista, I'm well accustomed to the high shelves of the Starbucks layout. More often then not I'm the tallest person on the floor. Nothing feels better than being the super hero of the moment and being able to grab the box of Strawberry Acai Refresher from the top shelf. It's also awesome in big box stores, as I often find myself shopping with my grandma who is about 5 inches shorter than I am. I'm always coming to the rescue and helping her grab the things she needs from the top shelf. Her comment is always the same: "Did you get tall?" I just laugh and say, "no, maybe you're getting shorter."

2. Walking fast

I'm known for always walking fast across campus. Why? Because I'm usually always late due to a much needed shot of espresso, and I always like to walk with purpose and confidence. I had one friend try to catch up to me on campus once and he was like, "Slow down! Where are you going so fast?" I just can't help but always walk fast due to my long legs.

3. Standing out

Not only do I love to wear bright colorful outfits, but I feel like my height also adds to how much I stand out. I'm constantly noticing people looking at me and I'm never sure if it's because of my height or my outfit! Either way its always fun to stand out.

4. Being the tallest one in crowds

Nothing is worst then trying to wave over someone through a crowd. Thankfully, I am usually the perfect height to where the person can just see the tops of my hands. Being tall definitely has its benefit in crowds.

5. Never having to wear heels

Most shorter girls feel so obligated to wear heels all the time, but not me! I've maybe owned four pairs of heels in my entire life, and worn them all of about five times. People think that it would be liberating for me to try on heels for a day, but as clumsy as I am I know there's a high chance I would just fall right on over. Plus heels can be bad for your feet long term!

Being a tall girl has its great moments and its not so great moments. For example, finding jeans that actually touch my ankle can sometimes feel like a goose hunt. But I love being tall because it makes me stand out, and it's something that I happily identify with.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
