Tallahassee Pets Alive (TPA) is an amazing organization here in Tallahassee, Florida that seeks to grow the number of No-Kill humane societies in Leon County. Since they started in January 2012, TPA has been a non-profit hoping that by turning shelters from No-Kill, all pets will be given the chance at a loving and supportive life. After working with this company, I was impressed with their passion and drive for the well-being and care of their pets. They work hard with the hopes of convincing the leaders in the City of Tallahassee to once and for all adopt a No-Kill policy within our community. As they continue to save lives and foster a loving community, we can continue to support them.

One of the most influential policies that Tallahassee Pets Alive has adopted is their Rehoming Program. One of the ways they work to make the community better is through rehoming their pets. Through this project, they hope that a pet will never have to live in a shelter. Because of this fostering program, “an animal in the rehoming program gets all the benefits of networking and placement that one directly in our care gets,” said Carrie, a devoted TPA volunteer. Tallahassee Pets Alive makes sure that their animals stay “off Craigslist where people often prey on [them], and out of the crowded shelter where the data shows their fate is not very good.” Their goal is that their pets are safe and well taken care of.

Tallahassee Pets Alive also works to make sure that their pets within their foster homes, as well as their families are a good match. If a family is struggling to train a dog or a puppy, volunteers at TPA will come and help out. By offering a training program, TPA hopes to provide an alternative to giving a pet to a shelter where there chances of adoption or survival are limited. For families struggling to train and manage their pets, it is a healthy and beneficial program that will not only make their lives easier, but also enrich the life of their pets.

As a member of the community, there are many ways you can help! TPA is always accepting donations. Whether that be food and treats for filling empty bellies, blankets and beds for snuggling up to, money and donations to help pay for vet visits, toys and leashes to play with, and volunteers to show them love and affection, TPA is always willing to accept contributions. TPA is never picky about donations and will accept anything that helps their pets live a happy and healthy life. They are always accepting volunteers to help with their pets and their adoption events as well. The staff is amazing, friendly, and dedicated and so much fun to work with, which is just an added bonus to working with them.

After having the opportunity of working with this organization, I learned how dedicated they were to serving our Tallahassee community and it’s pets. When I spoke to the Tallahassee Pets Alive team, I could hear in their voice and see in their eyes just how passionate they were about making the lives of Tallahassee’s pets a little brighter. Consider supporting their cause and helping rescue pets who need our love.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
