In today's society we read articles, watch gifs, see memes, all about "short girl problems" and the struggles of being short. Being 5'7", I don't consider myself a tall person, yet I find myself on that side of the spectrum more than I find myself on the short side. While I like to think of myself as somewhere in between, a happy medium, I usually end up being clumped with the tall people. Nothing against tall people, but there are definitely some struggles with being tall. So, instead of hearing more about the life of short people, step into the world, of a tall(ish) person.
1. The problem with high heels
There are occasions that call for heels, but good luck finding a cute pair that doesn't have a super high heel. Sometimes you may think you're not that tall, you can wear them...you'll soon learn that's probably not the case.
2. Taking photos
You'll be just tall enough to qualify for the back row of photos, but just short enough so that half of your head gets cut out of the shot. And side by side photos? You'll find yourself doing a crouch type motion to make yourself look shorter.
3. Buying pants
Have fun trying to find a pair of pants that actually fit and go all the way to your ankles.
4. And dresses
It doesn't just end with pants. Dresses usually become that awkward in between length where they're too short to be a dress, but too long to be a shirt.
5. Showers, dressing rooms and bathroom stalls
Usually this one's not a problem, but there will be those times when the shower head is shorter than you, when you're as tall as the dressing room door, and when you can see over the bathroom stall when you stand up. It's just something that happens.
6. People telling you you're tall
Thank you. I had no idea until you said something!
7. Being asked to grab something from a high shelf
Being asked isn't bad, it's the "being tall" comment that usually comes with the question.
8. Going out with someone that's the same height or shorter than you
Truth be told, it happens to everyone, and there's always at least one awkward moment involved because of the height difference, or lack there of.
9. Not being able to cross your legs in certain spaces
Whether it be a short desk, or an airplane seat with the tray table down, sometimes there just isn't room for any leg-crossing. Most of the time you're really close to being able to do it, but then you realize it's just not going to happen.
At the end of the day appreciate who you are: short, tall or that happy medium. And embrace it.
