10 Things Every Tall Girl Is Sick Of Hearing

In This Article:

I, as a 6ft tall,18-year-old woman, have spent the last 18 years of my life hearing countless "unoriginal tall people comments" (jokes?) that people feel so ever obligated to say. If you're at least 5'10 than you're used to hearing one of these, only every time you go out in public.

1. "You're tall!"

pexel.com

Thank you captain obvious, for stating the obvious. This is usually a conversation starter, however, I don't see anyone start conversations with a bald person by saying "wow you have no hair".

2. "How tall are your parents?"

Well, based on how genes and Punnett squares work they could pretty much be any height and pass on the "tall gene", but when I tell them my dad is 6'7, their jaws usually drop.

3. "Do you play basketball?"

pexel.com

Believe it or not, not all tall people play basketball. Yet, every tall person has been asked this question too many times to count.

4. "What about volleyball?"

pexel.com

Especially being a female, once you tell them that you don't play basketball, the next question is always volleyball.

5. "OMG my (person they know) is (height above 5'10)!"

unsplash.com

This is one of my personal favorites because someone telling you they know another tall person, and I never ever know how to reply. Smile and nod.

6. "Is your boyfriend taller than you?"

unsplash.com

I happened to secure one of the 6ft plus men as my boyfriend, but apparently, not everyone is as fortunate because there's a wiki-how to date a man shorter than you.

7. "How's the weather up there?"

pexel.com

This might be the oldest tall person joke in the book, the most unoriginal thing you could say, AND the most popular comment made.

8. "Hey shorty!"

unsplash.com

Hey, I see what you did there, I am tall so you called me shorty. That's very funny and original.

9. "How tall are you?" followed up with "No way, you don't look (your height)!"

pexel.com

Yes way! Yes, I really am the height that I was when you asked, and PLEASE don't ask me to stand back to back and get measured.

10. "You make me feel so short!"

unsplash.com

How does one reply to this? You make me feel so tall? Smile and nod? Apologize? 18 years later and I still haven't come up with a good one.

All of the remarks such as these, have made me into the sarcasm master that I am today. Short and average height people, I thank you for your unoriginal comments.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
