What do all of the things above have in common? People are always uncomfortable talking about them. Why though? Aren't these things important and need to have more attention given to them to decrease the effect they have on us?
Something that almost nobody talks about: sex trafficking. How much do you know? Did you know that the #1 road used for sex trafficking runs through Alabama? It's interesting that we overlook something that's going on all around us. We never hear about it, because we never talk about it.
Mental illness is talked about some, but not enough. Every time I mention my anxiety or a panic attack that I had, people tense up and look uncomfortable as I talk about it. It's okay, I know some people just don't understand mental illnesses. They've never had one and don't understand why other people have them. It's okay if you don't understand why people have them, just understand that they do.
If mental illness was talked about more often in a comfortable way, it would be so much easier to give people who suffer from mental illness accommodations in certain scenarios. People who suffer from severe depression or anxiety, for example, just sometimes cannot cope or deal with certain situations and need a longer time to build up the motivation to do them.
When will we start to be more open about important things like how the amount of mass shootings has increased tremendously over the years? These are things that we could bring more awareness to in order to find out what it takes to possibly save lives. We aren't going to make any progress with anything related to mental illness, mass murders, sex trafficking, death, and so much more if we are always just too uncomfortable to talk about it.
