Find a purpose for getting up in the morning, and you will have far less bad days. It's far too easy to fall into the rut of having "off"-days. We spend most of our evenings complaining about everything that went wrong during your day. We focus on the long line at the coffee shop, and the friend that hasn't answered our texts. Always focusing on the negative events from your day will prevent you from giving your day meaning. Instead of throwing yourself a pity party at the end of each day, do something that makes you happy.
What does it mean to bring purpose to your day?
Some people have jobs that they love and are honored to go to work every day. Not all job descriptions involve saving lives, but if you love your job, it could save your life. Loving your job is one way to give meaning to your day.
Yes, I know not everyone loves their job. Well, most people don't even like what they do.
I get that.
But everyone lives in a world where they can do what they love every day, even if it's not at work.
I am currently working as a waitress to make some extra money while I'm in college. Do I love my job? No. But I remind myself that someday I will be a doctor, doing what I love every day. Until then, I use little things to fulfill my sense of purpose.
Think about the things that bring you joy: reading, writing, socializing, shopping, exercising, walking outside, hammocking, etc. The best activities are things that don't cost a lot of money, so that you can do them often. For example, on days that I get a workout in, I feel super accomplished.
Another thing you can do is set goals. Crossing things off a "to-do" list can help you feel accomplished and motivated. Even if you fill your list with simple tasks, like texting a friend, eating a healthy breakfast, or reading a few pages of your favorite book, crossing them off will bring you joy.
So if you are stuck in the never-ending stream of negativity, its time for change. Bring purpose to your days. Set goals. Make lists. Take time out of your day to do absolutely nothing. The point is, bring intention to your actions. Think about the things that make you smile, and the things that don't. Do less of those things.
Smile more.
If you live each day with intention, and you will start to see the great things that life has to offer.
