Let's Talk About Cancer

Why we have to find a cure.

Let's Talk About Cancer
Susan G Coleman Walk 2016 Phillideliphia

The older I get the more the word “cancer” is becoming more and more common in my life. When I was younger I heard about a few of the elders at church who had been diagnosed, but it’s like everyone nowadays is getting this terrible disease.

It doesn’t make much sense to me why on earth we can’t find a cure and why it’s starting to take down so many undeserving people. Cancer is such a scary thing to be diagnosed with because there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it.

Now that I am old enough to realize how awful cancer is, and how many people that are so close to me are being diagnosed with it, it’s eye opening. It’s a daily fear of “What if it happens to me?”

So, cancer…

I hate you. Leave my friends, family, and myself alone. You are taking lives of people who don’t deserve it. You may be attacking these people, but they’re not going down without a fight. You’re trying to suck the life out of them, but you’re not keeping them down. They will win this fight and you will be gone soon. The end is near, I can see it now and this world will be gone of your hatred. You will NOT win this battle.

And to the ones who are kicking cancer’s butt and aren’t letting it ruin your days, thank you. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me through your entire journey by never giving up on yourself. You might not realize the impact you have on others through this, but you ARE a fighter and you WILL get through this. Thank you for showing me the true meaning of life and never letting some disease control your life, by doing what you have always dreamed of doing and never going a day without smiling. You are the one that needs everyone’s help, but you insist on helping others and doing everything you can for anyone who might need something. You’re a fighter, you’re an inspiration, you’re a hero. Keep showing cancer who’s boss, you rock.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
