What makes Pfeiffer So Unique? Ask a freshman, Madalyn.

Now we will continue on this journey exploring what makes Pfeiffer so unique from the student perspective. In case you are just joining this journey, three students have been interviewed in the past couple of weeks. The questions I have asked them have explored how they got to Pfeiffer and how they have changed since being at Pfeiffer. But the main and final question I have asked them is why Pfeiffer is unique to them.

This week I interviewed a freshman, Madalyn, who I met through one of my close friends Kristen. Madalyn has since become someone I enjoy talking to and happy to see begin her journey as being a member of the Pfeiffer Pfamily. As she is a new member of the Pfamily I was excited to get to know her a little better through this process. She is from Monroe, NC, participates in Cru, a bible study on campus, and is a nursing major here at Pfeiffer who although just a freshman is very excited about her four years here at Pfeiffer.

Her story of how she got to Pfeiffer is very much based in knowing friends who already went to Pfeiffer. That in some cases though you may not know where Misenheimer is, Pfeiffer will have it's way of finding you. She explained that she was really good friends with Kristen and Kara Adcock who also happen to two of my friends as well. That she at the time when she was applying to schools mainly applied to Pfeiffer because of them both talking about how much they loved Pfeiffer. Because much like me didn't even know where Pfeiffer was or that Pfeiffer was a university.

She much like myself and Megan Walsh, the sophomore that was interviewed, had the fear of not knowing anyone here really and making new friends in a new place. What she was mainly excited about which is something I can truly agree with her on is the classes that really would begin to dive into the material within her major. Because it truly does make a difference when you are learning material that is for the future career you aspire to have.

What surprised her the most about Pfeiffer and what she said makes Pfeiffer so unique is very similar to all of the previous answers. She spoke of how surprised she was on how nice everyone was on the campus, that everyone on the campus she had met so far were so willing to talk to you and have a conversation. Because how on most larger campuses you mainly end up only being close to a small group of friends, not many others really taking the time to get to know you. Here at Pfeiffer we are a Pfamily that cares for each other, that takes the time to get to know you past your major and where you are from.

She mentioned how she did truly believe that because she came to Pfeiffer that her faith would grow as the four years go by. Her main reasoning for saying this was that unlike bigger schools, we have chapel and make it an important part of campus. Also, just the fact that it is a faith-based school and that there are clubs on campus like Cru that can strengthen her faith as she grows as a student on campus.

We are the Pfeiffer Pfamily, a place where students and staff take the time to get to know you past the surface stuff. A place where your faith and knowledge can grow as you grow as a person.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
