If there's one thing I have learned in the past two years of being a college student, it's that everyone moves at their own pace. After graduating high school I had no idea what I wanted to major in let alone where I wanted to attend school. I had been accepted into plenty of schools and knew I wanted to go into the medical field but there was a major lack of motivation.
I took the time to work and enjoy life and in that time I learned that retail was not the life I wanted to live. I immediately enrolled in my community college as a nursing student and I was on the right track. Or so I thought. They nursing program advisors were so worried about the numbers of students getting through the program that they rush the students through and pile on as many classes as possible. So to take 18 credit hours and work full-time to pay for school I was beyond exhausted. This January I was supposed to start my first-semester nursing clinical. Exciting right? Well on top of that my advisor was trying to make me take Pathophysiology, Anatomy and Physiology 2, and Statistics. CRAZY!!! After speaking with my advisor they basically said I had to take on this course load or risk losing my seat in the nursing program.
I took matters into my own hands and decided to look into other options. I applied to many colleges as a transfer student, took tours, spoke to students and then Toledo happened. Once I was accepted I decided my best option was to take the semester off. My parents were not happy when they heard that I was going to do that. Taking the semester off is the best decision I have ever made. I have time for me. My physical and mental health. I am working and saving money. Most importantly, I am enjoying being 21! I have about 6 months until I return to a new school nice and refreshed.
