Are You Over-Judging Yourself?
Perception Trainers

As humans, we often judge ourselves based on our flaws and uncontrollable shortcomings. Perhaps we feel like we aren't making enough progress as time prolongs. It could possibly be that we feel as though we aren't living up to the "standard" that we should be. Along our journey of excellence, we are sure to make mistakes and, possibly, fail a few times. However, it is our flaws that make us who we are; and instead of judging the fact that we make mistakes, we should accept and learn from them.

It is true that we cannot accomplish everything we plan to do at the same time. We are only one person, so achieving all of our big goals simultaneously is basically impossible. We should not judge ourselves when we don't see progression right away. Instead, we should give ourselves credit for the things that we have accomplished and acknowledged that with patience, perseverance, and hard work we will eventually achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves. Below are four tips to remember when you feel like you are over-judging yourself.

1. Never put too much pressure on yourself. If you feel overwhelmed, it's probably because you have bitten off a bit more than you can chew. It is common to feel pressure when you have too much on your plate, but you can put some things off until you've freed up some of your time. The biggest problem with pressuring yourself is dealing with the stress that is sure to come. If you are trying to accomplish too much at the same time, you might feel as though you aren't doing as well as you should. This is because you have too many stress-filled activities going on at the moment. Think about yourself first!

2. Don't get so caught up in achieving your goals that you lose the concept of fun. The main purpose of accomplishing your goals is for self-satisfaction. If you don't feel satisfied by working towards your goals anymore, change your goals. Nothing you do is worth compromising your happiness.

3. Understand that some things take time. Everything is not designed to be rushed through, so you will just have to be patient and let some things work out as time goes by. Nevertheless, you should not let time become an enemy. Be smart with balancing your schedule, and do not waste your time.

4. Mistakes are going to happen! Do not be discouraged when they do! Making mistakes is just a part of life and we can not give up because things didn't work out the way we wanted them to. Use your previous mistakes as tools to work towards your present endeavor. The only way that you can progress is by not giving up.

Everyone experiences a point in their life when they feel like they aren't doing well enough. The key is to remember that you are doing your best, regardless of the situation. One does not have to be "perfect" to succeed. Eventually, your goals will be accomplished, and you'll see that judging yourself too much definitely didn't make it better for you. Think positively of your goals, your work and, most importantly, yourself!

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.
