"When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things." 1 Corinthians 13:11 As my freshman year comes to a close, I have had a lot of time to think about everything that has changed. I remember entering college with friends who I believed would be there forever, a broken heart from my first love who I believed to be my soul mate I met at a wrong time, and a desire to gain a huge new group of friends so I wouldn't be lonely in college- because that's all that counts in college, the friends of course! Anywho, as I reflected on what actually happened I realized I could not be happier with all of the changes I made to myself and my life- none of which I had planned or even expected of myself. This verse from Corinthians perfectly correlates to all of the changes I have undergone this year such as realizing I only need a few good friends to really make college fun. Grades are important and can be incredibly rewarding when you work for them and no boy who you truly believe to be your soulmate would cheat on you- just throwing it out there. Regardless, the theme of change is always relevant whether it be the changing of the seasons (shout out to anyone who got the Two Door Cinema Club reference). Change doesn't have to be a new, totally different haircut or dropping everything to live abroad for a year, it can be as easy as choosing to smile at the girl who is giving you grief instead of a glare or even buying new music- every little thing counts! Every step you take towards growing as a person or simply growing up, usually leads to clarity in parts of your life you didn't even realize you needed- that song you bought on ITunes can make you rethink a decision or assure your choice. You never know what's out there! All of these changes are bringing us closer and closer to who we are supposed to be at the end of it all, so why be scared of them? Embracing the changes life throws at you is as simple as seeing the big "wrench" that has supposedly ruined your plans as an opportunity to develop yourself and come up with a new route to your final destination. Be strong, be confident, trust in yourself, and treat yo self because life is too damn short to not fully enjoy every single day you're given! |
