College is super expensive. Yearly tuition can be 20,000 dollars and up. While some young graduates get help from their parents, most students have to find alternate means to pay for college. These can include scholarships, grants, loans, and getting a job or two during college.
Loans can be hefty and stressful. During my first semester of college, I had two loans and one scholarship to help me pay, and it still wasn't enough. I applied for so much financial aid, but unfortunately I was too late. I made the mistake of going into college thinking I was well prepared. I didn't have a lot of help to get me out of this money crisis.
After a lot of thinking and advice I decided to take off during my spring semester and get a job to save up. I make ten dollars an hour, and the majority of that money goes toward my college fund. At times I am disappointed in myself, but I realize I shouldn't be. Taking a break doesn't mean I won't finish school. It doesn't mean I can't pursue my dreams and do well in life. It doesn't make me a failure. I miss school, but I will return to it.
My first semester of college taught me so many lessons, and some many memories were formed. When I return to my university my cousin will be joining me. I know he will help me make more happy memories at the place I called home this fall.
We'll have each others' backs and we'll look out for each other during one of the busiest and most stressful times of our lives. Taking this time off will give me time to reflect and prepare for the new fall semester. When I return to college I will come back even stronger than before.
