Taking A Break From Social Media

Sometimes, you need to just take a step back and take yourself out of the spotlight.

We live in the age of social media. Almost everyone has Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat. We are constantly posting about our lives for the world to see. Unfortunately, a majority of us (myself included) feel the need to make ourselves and our lives look perfect and flawless. We're mainly posting pictures and posts in order to receive as many likes as possible or get the most attention from people. It can be exhausting trying to make your presence on social media be perfect for everyone to scrutinize and admire.

We need to learn to live life for ourselves rather than living our life just for others to see and be jealous of.

I personally am tired of people knowing my business because I put it out there for them to see. People end up "thinking" they know my life story. It just tends to cause more problems than it's worth. So why not take a breather and take a break from social media?

I've actually done this quite a few times before. The time I took away from the spotlight varied. The first time I did it, I did it for 7 months and the last time I did it, I did it for 3 weeks. It's totally up to you to decide what time range is most beneficial for you to recuperate and benefit from the break. Who knows, you may not even have an idea and just feel it out as you go.

When I took a break from social media, I felt a sense of calmness. I didn't have nearly as much anxiety as I did before when I was extremely active on social media. When I took this break, I wasn't scrolling through my feed or refreshing it every five seconds. The time that I spent on my phone was easily cut in half. I started to notice the world and people around me more. It was like a breath of fresh air.

Do this for yourself. Try it for even just for a few days or a week and see how you feel. If it makes you feel the way that it made me feel, it'll be a breeze to continue that break and to focus on yourself. It's extremely important to live your life for yourself rather than living your life just for others to see. Believe me when I say that it's a great idea to try this to improve your own life! Live life for you, girl. Don't let other people make you feel like you have to live a certain way or to a certain expectation. Be yourself and thrive.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
