It is safe to say that I love having 8 AMs. Since my very first semester of college, I have taken an 8 A.M. without fail, so it is very possible that I am just biased when it comes to my views on them. My internal clock naturally wakes me up between 8 and 9 A.M. on any given day, even during spring, summer, and winter breaks, so it only makes sense for me to force myself to get up a little earlier than that to get to class.
Here are my top reasons why 8 AMs truly are the greatest option.
1. You have a slightly better chance at finding good parking.
It is just a known fact that parking on campus can be nearly impossible once classes are in full swing for the day. Having to be on campus before 8 A.M. to make it to class gives you the upper hand on getting a good spot.
2. You can pick classes that you think you'll enjoy.
I don't know very many people who like being up early, especially for school. With that being said, 8 A.M. slots for classes don't tend to fill up as fast when registration opens, or at least in my experience. So, getting to pick classes you actually want to take is a little easier.
3. You don't have to beat the lines when you get lunch.
While a decent amount of people are just getting onto campus to start their day, a lot of them make a pit stop to one of the various places that offer food or coffee. This causes lines to back up and can make one late to their next class. The perk of starting your academic day at 8 A.M. means that by the time those lunch rushes start, you are practically done your day and have more time to wait around for those lines to dwindle.
4. You get the rest of the day to yourself.
Starting the day early means getting done early, too. If your schedule doesn't have a lot of big breaks in it, a full-time college student's day could potentially be over by 2 P.M. (depending on the length of the classes, of course). That means you have more of the day for yourself to do what you want, from getting a head start on assignments (or catching up on them, let's be honest) to attending club meetings that interest you!
5. It helps prepare you for the real world.
In the adult world, you need to be at work before 9 A.M. If you spend your time at college taking 8 AMs, you are helping your future, and you can get used to getting up early and being productive right away.
