All It Takes Is Faith, Trust, And Pixie Dust

It's OK to have faith in miracles.

All It Takes Is Faith, Trust, And Pixie Dust

Have you ever noticed how often people talk about miracles? Even if it's just an off-hand comment, people are always asking for miracles. I know I do it all the time. Now, some people genuinely need and pray for miracles in their lives, but I think most of us just throw the word around casually. "It'll be a miracle if (fill in the blank) happens." I've said it about making it to class on time, or getting assignments finished by their due dates. Things like this are small, but a lot of people pray for miracles of a much larger scale. And yet, I think there are also a lot of people who don't believe in miracles. Like everything can be explained by coincidence, intuition, or science. I know what my religion has taught me, but I my childhood taught me about miracles, too.

I was a Disney kid. I grew up watching almost nothing else. One movie in particular was Peter Pan. We all know the story, Peter Pan takes Wendy, John, and Michael to Neverland so they'll never have to grow up, and Peter can continue listening to Wendy's stories every night. Eventually however, they start to miss their parents, so Peter Pan helps them escape from Captain Hook and they sail away from Neverland, returning home. It's a fun story, with great lessons on family and growing up, but that's not the part I want to focus on.

The point I'd like to make lies in the idea of Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust. These are the three things necessary to fly. All the children have to do is have faith and trust, and Tinker Bell can use her Pixie Dust to make them fly. Now, Pixie Dust isn't exactly common outside of Neverland, and of course the Disney Parks, but I think Faith and Trust are the more powerful ingredients anyway. The Pixie Dust wouldn't have an effect on anyone if they didn't believe that it could. Wendy, John, and Michael had to have faith that the Pixie Dust would actually make them fly, and then trust that they could stay airborne as long as they needed to. The Pixie Dust, and flying, became their miracles.

Faith and Trust work the same way for us. Not in the sense that they can magically create Pixie Dust and make people fly, but in the sense that they do create miracles. It doesn't matter if you believe in God, or the Universe, Karma, Fate, or even just plain coincidence. Faith that miracles can happen, and Trust that whatever happens is for the best, are the two things that create miracles. From little things like making it to work on time, to big things like a cured illness or healed injury, miracles change lives and help make the world good. So while I know Pixie Dust is hard to come by, don't underestimate the power of Faith and Trust. It's okay to have faith in things like miracles, even if they're only little ones. Sometimes it's the little things that change lives.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
