Every success book out there claims fearlessness is a must to achieve anything, and I can fully attest to that.
From dyeing hair to finding the perfect sorority for you, or even just talking to a teacher about grades, there’s got to be some gutsy power pushing you on.
As a fitness instructor I have learned that to be entirely true. In my classes, the belief that "the crazier the better” is a common mantra. Trying something new, whether in a fitness class or in the big bad world, is crucial to ever changing anything.
There is no greater defining moment to support this belief than when I tried to ombre my friend’s hair. We failed…miserably.
The reason our DIY beauty project failed wasn’t because of lack of skill. Rather, it was all caused by playing it safe in the hair-dye aisle. We didn’t go “all the way blonde,” which we quickly learned is a must for anyone with naturally blonde-ish hair. So home we went with our “shy blonde” box with excitement in our eyes.
We followed all the directions, let it sit twice as long (apparently you have to hit start to get the timer going…who knew?) and carefully washed it all out. Well, my friends, “shy blonde” was pretty close to naturally blonde. Needless to say there was no difference in her hair no matter how much we tried moving around the lights.
Now, as we learned from Elle Woods, there is a lot we can learn about hair. Primarily, though, is the idea that you need to go big or go home. We learned that by playing it safe, an ombre will go unnoticed. Don’t let your actions go unnoticed! Go buy the brightest blonde you can find, or march up to your crush and ask them out, or even just try making dinner yourself (i’ll let you know how to put out the kitchen fire, just message me).
Whatever you are doing, make it big, gutsy, know you had to take that leap of faith to get there, and wallow in the happiness of accomplishing something big.
