Okay, I'm just going to say it: Ivanka Trump does not belong in the White House.
When it was announced that Ivanka Trump would be getting an office in the West Wing, it raised a sizable handful of concerns. What kind of concerns, you ask? Well...
First of all, it's completely unprecedented (unpresidented?) for an adult child of the President to have their own office right down the hall.
Ivanka even has a high-level security clearance, giving her access to some very classified information. I shouldn't have to explain why it's a problem for a non-government employee to be privy to this kind of info.
One of the major sticking points is Ivanka's business ties. Although she has formally stepped down from the Trump Organization and her clothing brand, she's obviously still going to take an interest in the success of these companies. And because she has the access that she does, there's no telling what influence she can exert to further her interests.
Many times on the campaign trail, Donald Trump said that he would pick "the best people" to serve as his advisors and counsel. But who would've thought that many of the "best people" seem to be immediate family members? That's not good judgement. That's nepotism, no matter what loopholes their lawyers have found to skirt ethics requirements. So far, it seems as if Trump is running the country like a family business, with his daughter and son-in-law sitting in on several meetings with foreign leaders. This will only continue that trend.
Essentially, Ivanka Trump's West Wing office turns the White House into an ethical minefield, if it wasn't one already. But perhaps the title of this article isn't the most accurate. Take Your Daughter to Work Day is just one day. This, on the other hand, is going to be a long four years.
