Life gets crazy; that’s not a difficult one to figure out. It can often seem like the only possible way to get yourself to the next step, the next task, or the next obstacle is to keep going at full speed ahead. These situations are completely understandable and it can feel like there aren’t any other choices. But, taking a minute to breathe and let your mind and body relax is just as important. Otherwise, you’ll just burn yourself out.
Find time to relax, and find time to be at ease. Just one little break can change the tension, stress and anxiety that we often feel when we’ve been working towards something relentlessly. Here are some suggestions for things to do if you’ve been needing something to help clear your mind:
1. Go Outside.
This one seems like a cliche but it’s true. Unplugging yourself from technology and getting a break from the hustle and bustle of life will help you feel a lot calmer. As humans in general, a lot of us feel the need to constantly be doing something (cough, cough, me). We need to remember that doing nothing and just enjoying the moment and our surroundings is just as important as being busy.
2. Exercise.
When you’ve been busy non-stop, the last thing you probably want to do is head to the gym. Besides exercise being good for your overall physical health, it can have a huge effect on your mental health, too. So, go work up a sweat and all of those wonderful endorphins will have you feeling happier and less stressed in no time.
3. Journal.
Don’t underestimate the power of journaling, and simply getting your thoughts onto paper. Writing about the good and bad times you experience can help you put things into perspective; it can help you reflect on where you were, where you are and where you could be.
4. Your hobby.
When we’re constantly going “go-go-go” all day, we often end up neglecting the things that make us the happiest. Whether that’s painting, playing music, cooking, playing a sport or any other hobby that you enjoy, it’s important to make time for that. Being able to focus on one particular task and not have to worry about anything else will help clear your mind. Think of it as a kind of creative break; you’ll come back feeling refreshed.
