Video Game Remixes Are On The Rise In Pop Culture And Your Playlists
Four grand albums that will knock your socks off.
My taste in music is, well, not like any other. At least, it's the not the same as my friends that I frequently talk to.
I am an avid fan of video game remixes and chiptune, a style of music that is unique both in concept and how it is constructed. There were huge releases over the past week, and I figured I'd give you a peek into my world just to see what this culture creates. You might even hear something you might like!
"Chiptunes = WIN" is a chiptune net label that began in early 2011 as a simple fan group on Facebook. Their newest release was "Chiptunes = WIN: Volume 7."
Hosting over fifty chiptune songs composed by giants such as Professor Shyguy, Zackery Wilson, and PROTODOME, this comp is nothing but greatness. My personal favorite was "Havoc Garden" by ZBW. If you're truly looking for something different to listen to, check out volume 7.
On the video game remix side of things, two new albums dropped: "GameChops' Splatunes 2" and "Tiny Waves' Zelda Remixed."
"Splatunes 2" is a compilation of remixed tracks from Nintendo's beloved franchise, "Splatoon." However, most of these tracks are derived from its sequel, "Splatoon 2." It's hard to pick a favorite off of this album, as these remixes are all really great.
Listen to remixes from "The Legend of Zelda" classics such as "Ocarina of Time," "Twilight Princess," and "Majora's Mask" withZelda Remixed and Tiny Waves. Tiny Waves has been great with themed albums like these, and this is just another one to add to our collections. My favorite from this one has to be "LemonDrop" and "Roborob's Oath of Order."
And finally, to round off some recent releases is an independent one from ItsThatAndyGuy––an EP called"Switch Jams Vol. 1" This one's still video game related, as all of its music was made on a digital audio workstation called KORG Gadget. And let me just say, these are some serious bops. They're amazing how they were composed, and I can't wait for the next installment!
