the burn of the salt
and the taste of my throat
remind me that i'm alive
and i'm not giving up,
at least until you flicker
or at least until you dim
since the light that seeps through
the ocean baptizes my wounds
and spotlights the whalebone fortress
that waits beneath me.
you are the anchor to the earth,
the rope to the lifeboat i failed to bring,
the tether to the world
i may never see again.
as long as the ocean
never succumbs to darkness,
i know i will relocate my ship
and i will
find my way
home
to you.
