For some, these two seem to be all in the same pot, pun intended. For others, the difference is practically night and day. Is there one that is better than the other? What do people prefer? Which one is “safer”? Are there any benefits to using either one of them? Well, let’s do some digging.
CBD is not a psychoactive substance while THC is a psychoactive substance.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a psychoactive substance is ‘a substance that, when consumed, impacts mental processes (thinking, mood, perception, consciousness).’
While there are many differences of CBD and THC from a technical standpoint such as CBD being a compound found in the cannabis plant but does not have THC in it or THC being the naturally occurring substance in the cannabis plant, what do we know about the different effects between CBD and THC?
Well, for starters CBD is best known for its medicinal effects.
A study led by researchers at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, found the CBD substance to reduce seizures in patients with epilepsy.
It has been found to relieve stress, pain and help the body to relax as well as reduce anxiety.
It also acts like a selective serotonin receptor inhibitors, which are what antidepressant medications are used for
THC is known for what causes the “high” effect.
It has been found to alter the senses as well as mood changes. Hallucinations, trouble thinking or problem solving, impaired memory and the risk of psychosis when regularly using high-potency marijuana are also some of the effects .
As for the legality of purchasing, consuming and/or using CBD or THC, it varies by state. Because the laws are ever changing, it is important to check the most current laws in each state.
Drug tests are used to detect THC and the breakdown of its products. Although CBD should not produce a positive test, there are some CBD products that may have THC and may result in a positive drug test.
Although THC is known to be used for the “high” that it causes, CBD has become quite popular and is becoming known for its potential medicinal benefits.
