The pressure of junior year is the hardest. No matter if you are a junior in high school or if you are a junior in high school, it is usually your most important year of grades, extracurriculars and the 10,000 other things you are doing to be different. However, with the thousands of bad and stressful times there are some fun and relaxing times! Our journey through our junior year in high school has had its own ups and downs, so here is our story!
The Story of High School
In Georgia high schools
All that is done is studying
Students are always sad
The first day
The first day of school
Would rather watch Netflix and Chill
Or even just sleep
Club Fair
The flood of info
People shouting to join their club
All you do is run
Friends
Friends, you lose some
You gain some and that is life
In all this chaos
Stress Breaks
A special moment
We finally get a break
From all the school work.
Community Nights
Placebo Effect
Fake days without homework
So that tests pile up
Homecoming
Dressing up for the fun night
Dancing, screaming, laughing
We all let go
International Night
Full of screaming voices
Talent fills the atmosphere
Dance, Sing, Act, Play, Cheer
Standardized Tests
SAT, ACT, EOC, APs, Finals
The tests never seem to end
Stressing for college
Finals
Students are really sad
What did we do this semester
We all are gonna fail
AP Exams
Advance Placement
Physics, Calculus, Psych, Lang
The future is here
College
The hard times are here
Recommendation letters
SAT, Clubs, ACT, future

Water, earth, fire, air, don't have time to wash my hair.

As the semester progresses, students quickly lose their minds. Even if we say we're okay, we're all sleep-deprived and ridden with physical and mental affliction. Don't worry. You're not alone. I am here to empathize with you via poetry. Here are 10 haikus that embody the mid-semester struggle.

A Lemon A Day: A Haiku Collection
When life gives you lemons, you turn those lemons into an artistic form of self-expression!
30 July 2018
455
"A Zest for Life"
Breathe the citrus scent
Taste its dance on your tongue
Bring me back again
"Slice of Prism"
Glowing yellow orbs
A burst of fertility
Birthed from its strong roots
"Lost Treasure"
Exotic color
Lured in to taste its glory
Just a bitter trap
I wrote these haikus as part of an exercise I took part in last fall. In this exercise, I was given a plastic knife and a lemon. We were only given one task: to cut up the lemon as we pleased. This may sound a bit morbid, but hear me out. The purpose of this exercise was to use our senses and describe how the characteristics of the lemon made us feel.
As I dissected this lemon, I kept thinking back to the summers where I would quench my thirst with freshly squeezed lemonade. I also thought about the scent of my father's hands when he was seasoning something in the kitchen. He would always make sure that his hands were washed with lemon juice, so that flavor could infuse into the spices that were rubbed into the meats he would prepare for dinner.
This exercise not only made me aware of my senses, but it also allowed me to reminisce about the good memories I had forgotten about. It's amazing how one object can help you remember so much, even after it's been manipulated a couple of times. I was taught a lesson that day. I literally should "go out and smell the roses" because there is so much going on around us, and we do not even realize it ourselves sometimes. I highly suggest that you do the same. I'm sure something interesting will come out of it.
Oh, and also, always remember to "squeeze" the day!
