7 Reasons Why I'm Happy FGCU DOESN'T Have A Football Team
The all American sport, football, the season some live for and some dread, but either way it doesn't come to FGCU and let me tell you why I love it!
College football season, the season some live for and others dread hearing. Luckily, that season doesn't come at FGCU and let me tell you why I and many others here are happy about it.
1. It Forces Fans To Cheer For Other Sports

You always see the football stadium packed at other schools, but not at all the other sports. That's not the case at FGCU! All of our sports get supported here. I think other sports finally get the credit, support, and funding they deserve since we don't have a football team.
2. Football Isn't Healthy
If all the research and movies that have come out in the last few years hasn't shown this, I don't know what will. It's not a healthy sport. Research has shown that not only is it dangerous physically with the constant danger of brain damage (In a study, 99% of donated brains from people that played football had brain damage) and injury, but also mentally. With football forcing you to constantly try to harm someone else, it leads to spikes in testosterone making you more aggressive on and off the field.
3. The College Gives Proper Funding To Other Things
Football is one of the most expensive sports to fund with all the gear, field, insurance, etc. that it eats up the budget for other sports, clubs, and uptake of the school in general, but since it's so popular, a lot of the time the school will sacrifice other things to budget for that. For example, East Tennessee State University decided to add football in 2015. The team costs about $4 million to field, one-quarter of the overall department budget. Imagine all the other things they had to cut in order to afford the team.
4. We Can Always Say We're Undefeated

Haven't you seen the hilarious and cute shirts? FGCU always staying undefeated in that area!
5. We're Able To Actually Get Places
We all know at big football schools that when it's game day, everyone is going, so if you think you're able to get anywhere you're wrong. Parking anywhere on campus is impossible to find and everyone will be driving to the games. Think you can go before the games? No, everyone is out tailgating! Better wait till the next day to get literally anywhere.
6. Friday's Can Be For Whatever You Want
Instead of being stuck at FNL, you can instead go out and do whatever you want! It can be a night out with your buds, go out to the latest party, go down the city instead of having your friends pressure you to go out to the game and sweat your booty off in the Florida heat!
7. You Can Root For Your Home Team Without Guilt
As much as we have eagle pride, we all know we have the team back home we secretly love and root for! We also all grew up watching our parent's team and I cheer for them when they're on!
