11 Ways To Survive Finals As Told By Leslie Knope
Because you know you're going to be stressed out, and Leslie knows exactly how to survive.

So finals are on their way. That's right everybody, finals are about to start.
But hey, don't panic. Start getting your affairs in order and prepare for a week of hell. Here's a few things Leslie Knope wants you to do to make your finals week just a little bit less stressful:
1. Make a study schedule
Yes, it's true. You will have people tell you a thousand times to organize and plan out your day to study. This schedule will make the amount of studying seem more manageable because you have a plan.
2. Eat breakfast
It's simple: start your day off right so that you have enough energy to get through all that studying.
3. Find a good place to study
Figure out where you can study properly. Study in a place where you know you can be productive and will not be disturbed.
4. Make time for breaks
Take some time to relax. You will get so much more done after a little relaxation.
5. Recognize that you may feel overwhelmed at times
It's okay to feel overwhelmed by all the work.
6. Let your frustrations out
Don't bottle all your stress up. You will feel so much better after letting it all out.
7. Don't be afraid to admit you don't understand something
If everyone else seems to understand a concept that you are struggling with, do not pretend to understand it because that won't help you.
8. Work with your friends for support
Even if you are not studying for the same exams, it helps to have someone to study with. Study with your friends so that you can support each other.
9. Feel fierce as you prepare for that final
You will feel stressed, but if you feel like you look good, you will feel more confident. Capitalize on that confidence, and know that you are going to rock your finals.
10. Get some rest
You may not be used to sleeping enough, but you need to be awake enough to take the exam. Get a good night's sleep so that once the exam starts, you can remember everything you studied.
11. Stay positive
Just know that you worked hard to study for your exams, and you will do well. Be confident in your abilities because Leslie Knope believes in you and so should you.
Good luck on finals!

It's officially summer!

It's that time of the semester again - finals. Finals week is a time dreaded by students from all over. Depending on where you are you might be prepping for your finals week, starting it or even wrapping it up. Today, I'm about to wrap up the last of my finals. After a long semester, I'm looking forward to the break so here's how I'm feeling as I get ready to finish up my last finals.
1. I did it!
It's time to let out a big sigh of relief because you did it. You finished your finals.
2. Finally, I'm done!
After a semester with little to no breaks, I think we can all say we're glad to finally be done.
3. Now I can relax.
What comes after finals? Relaxing.
4. Well, what am I supposed to do now.
This is the question I find myself asking as every semester comes to an end. What am I supposed to do now with all my free-time?
5. I guess it's time to catch up on tv and sleep.
Now that the semester is over, it's time to catch up on the activities you don't get to do as often while in school like watching Netflix and sleeping.

6 Ways To Handle The Stress Of Earning Your Degree From Your Childhood Bedroom
Oh so this was the room where I snuck cookies upstairs past my bedtime and stole R-Rated movies to watch when my parents were asleep and now I'm expected to earn my degree in this very same room?

It's definitely not easy, but it's something so many kids are struggling with right now.
Create a study area
Whether it is your desk in your room or your kitchen table - you need to have somewhere that is solely focused on academics. Make sure you have stuff around you that makes you feel comfortable and motivated. Also, make sure to keep it clean because if it isn't, you'll be out of focus the entire time. Allot 15 minutes before you start your workday so you can clean up the area and make sure it is up to your working standards!
Keep socializing
We all know it isn't the same as being on campus and being able to talk to people in person, but being able to keep those connections, even if they are virtual, will help you maintain a sense of community.
Manage your time
There is a different level of concentration that needs to be had when you are at home. Divide your work into manageable time slots and take breaks when you need to. It's okay to want to get your work done by a certain time, but it isn't okay to do it in an unhealthy manner. Your brain needs breaks so it can decompress and get back where it needs to be to refocus.
Communicate with your housemates
I know for me, I'm a family of 5, with two other college students in my house. Along with a dog who loves to bark (and sometimes for way too long and way too loudly) and two cats (one who enjoys coming into my room and jumping on my window screen and hanging from it). So it gets to be a bit noisy in the Hill household! But something I found super helpful was I would write out my schedule and give it to my family and say, "Hey if we could try to minimize the noise in the house during [insert time], I would really appreciate it!" No one knows what you are doing unless you communicate with them. Especially during these unprecedented times, communication is key!
Reach out for help
Not everyone has access to everything you have access to, ex. wifi, a laptop, a tablet, etc. Most universities are helping students get the equipment they need to have a successful semester, so don't be embarrassed or afraid to ask if you need it.
Plan your day
Even though some classes are asynchronous and you can watch them as you please, it's a dangerous habit to fall into. You have to be able to devote your full attention to the recording by setting a routine and limiting your distractions.

10 Things We're All Guilty Of Doing During Finals Week
Pain is temporary. GPA is forever.

With finals week well underway, those long nights of studying, writing essays, and projects are hitting students in different ways. Whether a student is a first-year or in a graduate program, there are things that we are all guilty of doing during finals week, whether it is procrastinating or doing something entirely different to help destress from finals week.
1. Studying new shows to binge on Netflix
You may be on your tablet or laptop researching information for your important biology report. After taking a few notes you stumble upon Netflix. You end up browsing through Netflix finding a new show to binge. Procrastination at its finest.
2. Spraying cologne or perfume instead of showering
This may be gross, but with all that studying and writing final papers, you may think less of your personal hygiene. To avoid wasting precious time studying, you opt-out of showering and put on some Axe.
3. Procrastinating
After an hour of studying you feel that a 10-minute break is well-deserved. You start scrolling on your phone and watch TikTok. Then you decide to play some games on your phone and scroll through Instagram. All of that time adds up and this is known as procrastination.
4. Attending or throwing a study party and studying nothing
Seeing all of your friends together studying may motivate you to do some actual studying. Wrong. The first 30 minutes may be all the studying you get. Instead of group studying you may start chatting and talking about the latest gossip and spilling the tea. You may even be making plans as well as snacking.
5. Drinking coffee excessively
How many cups of coffee you had? Two or three perhaps. A caffeine addiction during finals is not uncommon to most students. Or if you are not a coffee drinker, tea is the way to go. These drinks give you the energy needed to study and stay motivated during finals week.
6. Midnight snacking
All that time whether you were procrastinating or hitting the books has made you hungry. You raid the fridge and find something good to eat to stay awake.
7. Begging the professor for extra credit
There may have been a few cases where you slacked off in a course. You didn't turn in a paper or did not do so well in an exam or two. Now you must get an A on the exam to pass the class. It's hard to do that and get an A for that paper or exam, so you resort to begging the professor for extra credit.
8. Taking power naps
With so much time you took for studying you may be feeling extra sleepy during finals week. No need to worry, though, since taking 20-minute power naps will give you the rest your body and mind needs to stay healthy.

Finals Week, as told by John Mulaney
Because I seriously don't know how I'd make it through the end of the semester without a little bit of laughter
26 June 2019

As predicted by last semester, finals week has crept up on me a lot faster than expected, and I am now feeling the pressing weight of last-minute papers and culminating projects bearing down upon my shoulders. It is in times like these, when the stress is almost too much for me to handle, that I turn to comedy to help me through things, trying to relate my own struggles in a much lighter sense. Here are 8 John Mulaney quotes that I have been thinking about this week to help alleviate my academic suffering and relax a bit!
"I don't look older, I just look worse."
Me looking at myself in the mirror the morning after spending 16 hours in Raynor, studying a total of 4 chapters because everything about biology is just so difficult for me to understand.
I wish I was kidding.
"In terms of instant relief, canceling plans is like heroin."
That feeling when your last few meetings of the semester get canceled and you realize you might be able to sleep an extra 30 minutes or so tonight.
"I don't make plans anymore. So I'm not living minute to minute."
Re-blocking your ENTIRE weekly routine to make more time to finish your research for your final philosophy project.
I just LOVE being organized and changing my mind 24/7!
"Something happened here. You hope it's a miracle, but probably not."
Mood after taking my chemistry final last semester and nearly crying in the middle of it.
"All my money is in a savings account. My dad has explained the stock market to me maybe 75 times. I still don't understand it."
I interpreted this one a bit differently. Think of it like this: "All I know is just the stuff I memorized from my Quizlet. I have reread the textbook maybe 75 times. I still don't understand it."
That's how you know it's time to take a break/go to bed.
"The more you do stuff, the better you get at dealing with how you still fail at it a lot of the time."
This can be related to two words: procrastination nation.
"You can do good work simply staying up all night and eating nothing but junk food, but probably not in the long term."
Kind of similar to what I told myself that one time I walked into Raynor at 11 pm last semester, after the Marquette vs. Madison basketball game.
"I look back on being 17 and think, 'Oh my God, how did I not die?'"
Change the age of 17 to the age of 19, and you'll have my exact thoughts about a week from now when I look back at how many hours I spent hunkering down in front of my laptop trying to remember everything about diatoms and Dorothy Day.
Wishing you all the best of luck with finals week and whatever else the end of your semester may entail.
