At the beginning of every year, we make a promise to ourselves- New Year's Resolutions. Its origin lies with ancient Babylonian culture, where the people would make a list of sins and promises to repent and present to their gods.
It's a harmless idea, and in some cases, they really turn out to be beneficial for the person that makes it. Resolutions range from pledging to go to the gym more, or to go back to school- or whatever idea.
But we all know that sometimes resolutions, for whatever reason, can fall through.
Whether it just be general laziness, taking on too big a task, or whatever other reason people tend to come up with, resolutions don't become resolutions.
But, why?
Unfortunately New Year's Resolutions have slowly been shifting from becoming resolutions, to obligations. Instead of doing the thing you wanted to do because of motivational purposes, by the second week of January, you just feel obligated to do it. The magic has worn off.
And humankind HATES obligations.
So this upcoming New Year's, when you're counting down to midnight and thinking of the better person to be, don't obligate yourself into doing it. Make it your own choice, and your own decision.
Besides, it can't be worse than 2016, right?
.....Right?
