7 Things You Hear in Class During Syllabus Week

No one is ever ready for summer to end, or to pick up those books again.

7 Things You Hear in Class During Syllabus Week

Casually fitting for this week, as Universities are heading back to school. Here are seven things I heard repeatedly in my classes during this year's syllabus week.

1. "What did you do this summer?"

Everyone's go-to question. Nothing made me feel more of a lazy P.O.S. than while in my first class, hearing everyone talk about their internships across the country. But in my defense, there were still some other students who were like me and stayed in the college town just to work.

2. "Do we need to buy the textbook?"

The question everyone wants to know the answer to. Are we going to have to spend $70.00+ on a book we'll open only for a couple months? Or is the professor going to save us some cash for "Thursday Night Activities" (and yes, one of my professors actually said that).

3. "What other classes are you taking this semester?"

This is one of my favorite questions to be asked. The reasoning because the person asking the question is asking you this because they genuinely hope that you're in another class with them. Having someone you know in multiple classes helps in more ways than one, especially in the friendship department. Maybe it's just the journalism college at my school, but everyone is so nice.

4. Attendance policy.

It's one of the first things covered on every syllabus, attendance. This is the key part of the first lecture where I know that everyone is listening; when the professor tells us if they are going to take attendance every day or not. It's always nice when you realize your professor won't dock you down any points for missing an 8 A.M. lecture here and there…

5. "Wait, we have to start taking notes already?"

It's the worst part… when the professor is done going over the syllabus and you actually have to start taking notes over the beginning of the class material. Most professors are easy going enough to let you leave the class early on the first day after finishing reading over the syllabus, but sometimes you don't get so lucky.

6. "It feels so good to be back!"

You'll hear it from everyone: fellow students, your professors, and maybe even the casual custodian. Although the town was peaceful and much, much different in the summer… it is kind of nice to have all of the students back. I officially live in a full college town again, and I can actually say I kind of missed it.

7. "Are you going out tonight?"

A question I was asked almost every day of syllabus week. This is the only week of the year where we aren't stressed with a million and one homework assignments, so it makes sense to waste our nights at the bars, right?

Cheers to all for another year of school, let's hope we all get through this one with ease. XOXO.

Peace and Blessings,

Kayla Jean Brady

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

The holiday season is full of stress, debt, and forced conversation. While we rush through the month of December, it's important to take a step back and enjoy the moments before they're gone. Most families love to watch Christmas movies, but these beloved films provide more than entertainment. Here are 10 life lessons that I've learned from the holiday classics we watch every year.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
