For most of my life, I've been told to be careful about what decisions I make when I'm young because "The decisions you make now will affect you for the rest of your life." This little mantra has been drilled into me over and over to the point where I'm convinced any big decision is a life-altering decision and stress about it because "it'll affect me for the rest of my life."

One of the biggest decisions that usually always leads to stress is what to study when we get to college. There is a lot of pressure to not only go to college but to go to college with a major and a plan of how to succeed. We need to make sure we pick our major within the first few semesters to save time and money and get started on the path to future careers. The only problem with this is what if we truly don't know what it is we want to devote our time and money to? Are we supposed to pick a major and just go with it? And what happens if we pick a major and want to change it? What if we are waist deep in one subject and have already spent thousands of dollars on schooling for a field of study we realize we don't want to be in anymore? What then? Do you stick with it because you've already invested all this time and money even though you aren't happy?

I am here to tell you the sky will not fall if you change your major, I can guarantee that. So what if you change your major? So what if you change your major more than once? This is YOUR college experience YOUR money, and YOUR education. Yes, It's a hard decision, but you have options. We are not stuck to one path or decision. That is the beauty of living here in America where we have choices. We can choose to change our major four, five, or six times. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that, but the option is there for you.

I know that money can be a big issue when it comes to college and the reality is if you change your major, it might take you longer to graduate which means more money. However, making that sacrifice now to get the degree you want is better than wasting money on a degree you didn't want.

However, I will say to be cautious when changing your major only because this shouldn't be a rash decision. Take your time to weigh out the pros and cons. Look at all the options and think through this decision before making it. I say this because the decisions we make now will affect us for years to come. This will set us up for our future careers and sets us up for different paths. So, yes, change your major if you want to, the world will not end. Just make sure to think it through first.
