Ever since its huge debut back in March 2017, the Nintendo Switch has without a doubt been at the forefront of the video game industry. Often referred as a hybrid console, the Nintendo Switch allows gamers to take their home gaming experience on the road without skipping a beat. This is why it is overtaking the world of gaming at a rapid pace. Considering that Nintendo endured a major slump with the Wii U, the Nintendo Switch has shed new light on the veteran gaming powerhouse.
The fact that the Nintendo Switch single-handedly pulled Nintendo out of its Wii U slump must mean the Nintendo Switch is the perfect console that can’t possibly get any better, right? Well, this may not be the case after some recent news potentially hinted that Nintendo has a power play up its sleeve.
According to Ashley Jenkins from The Know, it has been revealed that Nintendo may be planning on releasing a second version of the Nintendo Switch. The information comes from the recent 5.0 System update in which some Nintendo fans were able to find clues of updated hardware that is presumed to be for a new Nintendo Switch that will be more powerful than the current model. The new hardware would include a Tegra 214, which would replace the current Tegra 210 chip and would potentially provide more security for the new Nintendo Switch. The new hardware would also double the current Nintendo Switches ram from 4 gigabytes to 8 gigabytes. Lastly, the new hardware would potentially include a new circuit board. The new circuit board could potentially compensate for the heat that the slight boost in performance may cause. While this may all seem like major hardware advances, it was made clear that the hardware would only provide a minor boost in performance.
This leaves gamers asking, is a new Nintendo Switch necessary? After all, the Nintendo Switch is barely a year old and the current model has been performing well. This is essentially the same way Nintendo handled the 3DS, another successful Nintendo System, where Nintendo released numerous versions of the hardware that varied in power and price. While a new Nintendo Switch may seem unnecessary, Nintendo has always attempted to provided gamers with a variety of options that will match their gaming preference and budget.
With that being said, Nintendo has yet to come out with an official announcement verifying that they plan on releasing a new Nintendo Switch. However, it can not be ignored that this is evidence that the rumors that have surfaced about new Nintendo Switch hardware over the past several months are true. Even if that data that was retrieved from the latest Nintendo Switch system update is true, the new Nintendo Switch won’t be a drastic hardware upgrade like the Xbox One X or the Playstation 4 Pro. This means that it won’t feel like a necessity for your gaming collection.
Nonetheless, Nintendo fans can only sit back and eagerly wait for an official announcement from Nintendo.
