Recently, it was announced that the Miss America Pageant will no longer include a swimsuit competition. Whatever your opinion on that might be, I thought it would be fun to reminisce on the styles of swimsuits throughout the decades. Just like the competition has changed, beach styles have also changed. What year and style was your favorite?

1900

Very modest. Pretty hard to imagine going for a swim in a dress.

1910

A bit more arm and chest showing here.

1920

Forget the water, now that the swimsuit showed more skin it was all about soaking up the sun.

Fun Fact: In 1921 Beauty pageants became respectable.

1930

High wasted bottoms with a belt to accentuate the waist.

1940

Much less material. Much more skin.

1950

Showing stomach was fun while it lasted, but the 1950s returned to one piece.

1960

Hello bikini. Welcome to the 60s.

1970

Very chill vibes from the 70s.

1980

So much color. So much hip.

1990

Athletic and cute. Also the tankini was introduced so there was a nice in-between swimsuit.

2000

Triangle tops, stringy bottoms, Cali vibes.

2010

Bandeau tops and fun patterns!

Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
