The sun shined hotter than normal
and children sold their lemonade
on the sidewalks near their homes.
Old people bickered about new times
and mom just cries about how dad
used to treat her.
Winter ain't as cold as it used to be
snow is unfamiliar to youngsters
and Frosty is the only snowman they know.
They make hot chocolate with water
not milk, and they stop believing in Santa by 10
When I was growing up our elders had values
They invested in us. Someone was home
when we got off the school bus to make
sure we did our homework even when they
didn't know how to do it themselves
Leaves used to fall in autumn and flowers
used to bloom in spring, but nowadays I can't
walk out my door on Halloween without
it being 90 degrees. Things just don't work
like they used to. Kids these days will
never understand what it's like to tap
the number nine 4 times to get to the letter Z
let alone how it feels to walk 4 miles
to get to school because the bus doesn't
drive to their neighborhood. They'll never
understand what we went through.
