Why You Should Make Norman, Oklahoma Home

If you watch TV or see advertisements for the University of Oklahoma, people often call OU "The Palace On The Prairie." Most of the time it's a reference to the new football stadium that graces the middle of the school campus. What it doesn't say is that the university lies in the middle of one of the best college towns in the United States. Maybe I'm a little biased because I've grown up in this town and now attend OU, but I think I'll let you decide for yourself. Oftentimes, college towns are usually really small towns with nothing big but the school in the city, but Norman is the complete opposite and will quickly be home to you, too.

Norman is the perfect combination of city life with small town charm. There is always something going on, and it's full of fun places to go. Campus Corner, right in the heart of the university is full of fun local food haunts that are always busy, especially on game days. Places like O'Connell's Irish Pub—where Green Beer is a hit on Saint Patrick's Day—Louie's Bar and Grill, and Pepe Delgado's Mexican Restaurant are just a few of the dozens of places to eat. In addition to bars, lots of other local places like Victoria's Pasta Shop and Hideaway, are some of the most popular places in town. If dessert is what you're craving, the most recent addition to campus corner is The Baked Bear, a gourmet ice cream sandwich shop that hails from San Diego. Epic Pop, Crimson and Whipped Cream, as well as Hurt's Donuts are also very popular amongst tourists and locals.

If you are wanting something else separate from the University, downtown Norman has that small town local feel that everyone loves. Depending on the weekend, you could check out a local musical or play at The Sooner Theatre, which does top-notch community theater productions, and feature a one hour student rush ticket price one hour before show time! Downtown Norman also features local coffee shops and eclectic boutiques. In addition to small town charm, the west side of Norman is full of all of your favorite chain restaurants and stores, as well as a really good size mall; all of the things you love about city life.

If you are looking for a great college experience in a great town, make Norman your home! Chances are, you'll find it's hard to leave.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
