9 Sweet And Savory Purim Desserts

Why stick to tradition when you can stuff your hamantaschen with caramelized onions and marshmallows?

9 Sweet And Savory Purim Desserts

Purim is a Jewish holiday to celebrate the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from Haman's plot to kill all of the Jews. Hamantaschen is a traditional treat eaten on Purim. The snack is designed to look like the evil Haman’s hat.

1. Traditional hamantaschen.

A sugar cookie crust filled with apricot or raspberry preserves. Recipe here.

2. Savory caramelized onion hamantaschen.

A pizza dough crust stuffed with grilled onions, grape tomatoes, and goat cheese. Recipe here.

3. Corndog hamantaschen.

Cornbread crust stuff with your hot dog of choice. Have a side of mustard or ketchup to dip. Recipe here.

4. Pastrami on rye hamantaschen.

Rye crust stuffed with beef pastrami, caramelized onions, and mustard. Recipe here.

5. Samoa hamantaschen.

Vanilla cookie dough will with caramel and chocolate chips sprinkled with coconut and drizzled with chocolate. Recipe here.

6. S’more hamantashen.

A graham cracker dough stuffed with kosher marshmallows and chocolate chips. Recipe here.

7. Haman’s fingers.

Almonds and walnuts tossed in ground cinnamon and sugar wrapped in a filo dough. Recipe here.

8. Funfetti challah.

Traditional challah dough mixed with sprinkles, baked and then topped with vanilla frosting and sprinkles. Recipe here.

9. Pull-apart sweet surprise challah.

Challah rolls stuffed with your choice of peanut butter, chocolate chips, marshmallow, jam, nuts, etc. Recipe here.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
