Saginaw Valley State University isn't a huge school, but it is a great one.
It's full of intelligent students, amazing faculty, and our own set of unique slang. If you're on campus, you'll probably hear every freshman say these things at least once.
1. "What's the FOC?"
Students have nicknamed our dining marketplace to be the "Food On Campus" or the "FOC." It's rarely called by its actual name.
2. "Where are all the parties at?"
SVSU isn't a huge party school like others in the state, but you can find parties if you really look. Just ask around!
3. "How many people did you graduate with?"
There are students here from many different hometowns. While I graduated with nearly 800 people, some of my friends only graduated with 40.
4. "Where is North?"
Last year, "Living Center North" was renamed to be "Mary Jo Brandimore House." The newer students call it "MJB" while the older ones tend to stick with "North."
5. "Wait, I have to park where?"
Unfortunately, freshmen have the WORST parking on campus. In order to get to and from their car/dorm, they have to walk pretty far. They only have to deal with it for about a year or so though!
6. "What is the zoo/jungle?"
The freshman dorm facilities are nicknamed "the zoo" and "the jungle" because of how crowded and crazy they get.
7. "The internet is down AGAIN?"
With so many students on a relatively small campus, there are often issues with internet outages. It's frustrating, but we can deal with it!
8. "What is there to do around here?"
Saginaw isn't a huge city, so there isn't always a ton of entertainment. Luckily, if you've got a good group of friends and you're willing to adventure, I'm sure you'll figure out something fun to do!
9. "How's the Greek Life here?"
There aren't too many Greek organizations, but there are some AMAZING ones! Going Greek is a great choice that you will not regret!
10. "What clubs should I join?"
Attending events like the Red Pride Picnic or Card's Party can help you meet the people who will help you make the connections you need to in order to join the endless clubs and RSO's on campus!
