How To Be Successful In College

You've been sent off to college with everyone yelling "Good luck!" "Have fun!" and "Study hard!" at you as you said your goodbyes. You're told to be successful, get good grades, join clubs and activities. (All which you should do!) However, there are many different ways to define successful, so college-student-to-college-student, here's how to really be successful in college.

1. Learn to love the things that are free.

You will not complain about the design on the t-shirt or the quality of the food, if it's free, enjoy it.

2. Always have EasyMac or Ramen Noodles in stock.

Late night projects will cause late-night hunger, and a sleeve of Oreos can't always solve that problem. Be sure to prepare yourself with one of these two five-star meals.

3. Learn every hot-spot on campus.

You're going to need to know where the closest printer, bathroom, water bottle refill station, and snack bar is at all times. You'll thank yourself later.

4. Appreciate the free wifi, laundry, and meals while you have it.

Of course you're technically paying for it all in your tuition, but once you're off-campus and have to pay things out of pocket, you'll realize how much you took for granted while on-campus.

5. Run off of caffeine, not sleep.

You'll quickly realize that sleep is for the weak. Although you might sleep in until 12 o'clock on Saturday, you need to remember that you only fell asleep about 6 hours prior. Become a regular at your local coffee shop and enjoy every caffeine-driven moment.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
