Surviving Senioritis

Even If You're Not A Senior

While I’m only technically a Junior, I am still suffering the effects of Senioritis. If we’re being totally honest, I think I’ve had Senioritis since I was a Sophomore in high school. Obviously, I’m a little over this whole “school” thing. Unfortunately, being bored with classes and having a hard time finding motivation to do school work will not help me get my diploma. It’d be wonderful if it did, and I’m certain you’ve tried to find a plausible way that you could skip forward to graduation day and bypass all of the in-between. That just isn’t the reality. This being the case, I am here to provide some inspiration. If you’re not inspired, you might at least get a laugh out of my tips to beat Senioritis, and forget for a moment that the semester has actually started.

Remember how privileged you are.

Classes might seem like a drag, professors drone on for hours, the amount of school work piles up and you can’t even fathom how you’re going to get all of it done. Underneath all of that is so much more, it’s an education. We are all so fortunate to even go to the classes we despise, because many don’t have that opportunity.

Stay focused on goals.

Remember that goal you have? The one you’re striving for after you graduate? Well college is just another stepping stone you have to hop across to reach that goal. When you start thinking of college as less of an obstacle and more of a catalyst, the perception you have of it might change.

Don’t suffer in silence.

The title of this came out sounding a lot darker than intended. The point of this is, if you’re going to complain about how badly you just want to graduate, complain with friends. It won’t change anything, but there is such a thing as a healthy venting session. If you don’t have any friends, that is unfortunate and feel free to comment on this article because I’m always up for some complaining.

Pay attention during class.

Wait, I thought we hated class? That might be true, but if all we do is sulk through subject after subject, we’re only creating our own misery. Engage in the class, focus on the material and reflect on what it means to you. If you get involved in what you’re learning, the time will go a lot faster and it won’t feel as boring as you might think it is.

Value every day.

I’m as guilty of this as everyone else. I will sit around and wish for the next best thing. I can’t wait for Thanksgiving break, and then it’s winter break, or spring break or even summer. Once I get there, I look at how fast the time behind me flew by, and I regret being in such a hurry to get through it. Wishing for the end of each day is no way to live. You might not have an all around great day, but there are pieces of greatness in each day. Find them, hold on to them and live in them. Those moments are your life, and they shouldn’t be overlooked.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
