We all experience them: the mid-semester blues.
Midterms mark the halfway point of the semester and are often accompanied by excessive fatigue and stress. Most of us start the semester off strong by not skipping any classes and getting assignments done early. However, the midpoint of the semester is a hard obstacle to overcome and usually defeats most of us.
Here are six ways to give yourself that extra push to continue on and finish strong.
1. Keep planning.
GiphyIt's easy to forget to update your planner and calendar as the semester goes on, but it's crucial that you continue to plan in order to be successful. Don't get lazy - keep planning and record all of your assignment due dates and upcoming events.
2. Eat a healthy breakfast every morning.
The stress that comes during the midpoint of the semester can easily mess with your eating habits. Whether it's eating fast food due to laziness or not eating at all due to stress, continuing bad eating habits will only add to the problem. Make sure to wake up early enough to cook yourself a healthy breakfast and start the day off on the right foot.
3. Listen to motivational podcasts/songs.
Sometimes motivation needs to be sought. Listening to motivational podcasts and making playlists with your favorite uplifting tunes can work wonders. Listen to them on your way to class every day and you'll be ready to conquer anything. They are also great for unwinding during study breaks.
4. Always have coffee handy.
GiphySomething as small as a cup of your favorite coffee can turn a bad day around. Always have your Starbucks or Dunkin' app loaded or K-Cups in the pantry for your caffeine needs.
5. Don't be too hard on yourself.
It's OK to have bad days and forget something every now and then. Don't be too hard on yourself - it will only stress you out even more. If you need to take a mental health day, take it. Sometimes we all need a break to come back stronger when Thanksgiving is too far away.
6. Remember why you're here.
Take a moment to remember why you chose to come to college and study what you're studying. Find that passion and run with it. Sometimes, watching an inspirational show or movie about your future profession will do the trick.
Remember that passion and motivation are always inside of you, they can just get lost in the endless thoughts and responsibilities of college life. Try to keep a clear head and remind yourself of your goals, and never be ashamed of taking time for yourself.
