Happy Spring, and Happy Windy Season for everyone here in Lubbock. The plants are blooming and the weather is changing, and 30 mile per hour winds are a daily occurrence. Recently it's felt like you can barely step outside without being bombarded by gusts full of dirt, leaves, and other random objects. But don't worry, there are actions that can be taken to help you survive this crazy time.
1. Check your weather
Get yourself a nice weather app you can trust, and check it every morning. The keyword is "Blustery." Be sure to check wind chill as well, as this can make it feel 5-10 degrees colder than it actually is.
2. Dress accordingly
With your newfound knowledge of the day to come, pick an outfit that can help you out. Don't forget your jackets on the colder days. Ladies, skip the dresses, unless you plan on embracing your inner Marilyn Monroe. Wear hats at your own risk, because there's a good chance you'll be chasing it down after it flies off your head.
3. Pick a practical hairstyle
First of all, don't expect your hair to look the same at the end of the day as it did at the beginning. It will not. Braids and ponytails are ideal for longer hair, but you could always let it go free and let nature do its thing. If you get a good Snapchat of it, you may even end up on the campus story.
4. Don't forget your sunglasses
Fashionable and functional. But, you won't be wearing these just for the sun. No, your shades will protect your eyes from any oncoming dirt that will hit you right in the face (and temporarily blind you).
5. Pick your battles
The main thing is to decide if you should even go outside in the first place. Before you leave the safety of the indoors, ask yourself "Is it worth it?" If not, stay inside! You don't need that mess in your life.
We love you, Lubbock, but if you could calm down a little bit, that would be great.
