Surviving Finals With Gratitude

Family, friends, fun, what gets you through?

Surviving Finals With Gratitude

I go to an amazing university that challenges me and is preparing me for the future. I participate in extracurricular clubs and activities that make me feel important and included. I volunteer to make a positive impact. I eat well and I exercise so I have a body that allows me to do everything I want to. I have friends and family that love me and deeply care about me. I am blessed with an incredible life, but on days when I am feeling really stressed, anxious, and depressed, it can be easy to forget all of this. For those days, I am making a list of things for which I am grateful so that I never forget.

1. My parents

The number one thing that I am thankful for will always be my parents. They love each other and they love me unconditionally. This seems to be rare by today's standards, but I am so thankful for their outpouring of love. They are (and always will be) my unwavering support system.

2. My family

Beyond my parents, I am blessed with a family that is amazing. They truly care about me and my well-being. They always support and encourage me. I know a lot of people that think their extended family is crazy, but I can honestly say that my family contains some of the most amazing people you will ever meet. They are intelligent, hard-working, passionate individuals that I am so proud and thankful to be related to.

3. My friends

"Having friends" is something that until recently I have struggled feeling content within my life. I did not appreciate the friendships that I have enough and cared more about the quantity of friends that I had than the quality of friends. I am so thankful that I have a few high-quality friends that are amazing, inspirational, individuals that care about me.

4. My healthy body

I have a complete anatomy that works harmoniously every day which allows me to walk, run, and function in every way that I need it to. This is something that I often find myself taking for granted. If I had some sort of limiting physical condition my life would be so much different. I am thankful for my healthy body that works for me every day.

5. My education

I have been so fortunate to have incredible teachers throughout my education. I am not lucky to have the opportunity to attend a first class university where I am being challenged every day. My professors are incredibly intelligent individuals that are preparing me for the future and setting me up with amazing opportunities in the workforce.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
