Staying Warm Against Nature's Wishes

It's getting cold outside. Make sure to stay warm by wearing appropriate clothing.

1. A thick outer layer is important for blocking wind chill and keeping warm. Multiple layer jackets work best but can be expensive, so wear multiple separate layers if money is an issue.

2. A warm hat is just as important because a large amount of body heat is lost through the top of the head.

3. Hands are the extremity most prone to damage from the cold, as your feet will already be covered with socks and shoes. Putting your hands in your pockets is one solution but many people like to use their phones while walking around. Police tactical gloves are supposed to be a flexible option but mittens are certainly warmer.

4. Sweatpants will keep your legs warm. They are thicker and looser than jeans, creating air pockets that improve heat retention.

5. If it is raining, waterproof footwear is of utmost importance. Puddles will be everywhere, they will be freezing cold, and so will your feet for the rest of the day.

6. If you really want to get into the spirit of winter you can buy a balaclava or a full face respirator.

Stay safe, and stay inside as much as possible.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
