5 tips to help keep the holiday break interesting

For me winter break isn't as exciting as it seems to be for others. I am from a small town, which I only visit once a year during Christmas break when I go back from college. When I go back to the little village I often find myself just sitting around, given the fact that I am broke and my parents are at work during the week, I am usually just sitting at home that seems to be in the middle of nowhere. This is why I came up with things to do to not drive myself up the wall and for others who find themselves in the same position.

1. Electronics

One of my first go to's are watching Tv, movies, YouTube videos, ECT. However after an hour or so once my couch potato-ness starts to get old I need to do something else.

2. Cooking/ Baking

No we are not all Betty Crocker, however doing a little bit of kitchen experimenting can be fun and you can get a good meal out of it. I have been cooking for sometime now and when I don't know what to make I usually first look through my kitchen to see what food or ingredients I have then I pick a few of them out and Google what can I make with blank blank and blank and usually end up creating something cool, new, and delicious.

3. Arts-N-Crafts

Cooking may not always suit everyone and sometimes you may not have enough things to cook with. However there is no fear because as long and you have paper and something to write, paint or color with you have an art piece. Or just great with what ever you find. Look up DIY's on YouTube and just follow along. I usually use this time to make Christmas presents for my family members, from paintings, scarves, pillows, pictures, the list goes on but it does take up a lot of time but it's enjoyable and in the end you have something to be proud of.

4. Playing Games

The holidays are the time of year when you spend time with your family. Playing Games with your family can be very entertaining and bring eveyone together. For my readers who are over 21 you could even have a beer and relax as you play card games. For me I love to play dominoes and board games with my family especially because we are all competitive, but in a good way, which just adds fun to the game.

5. Helping Out

So my family is often busy working while I'm just relaxing at the house so while I'm there I try and help out around the house or do small tasks that they store to busy to do. Often for me that is mainly cooking and wrapping gifts. It makes everyone happy and gives me something to do.

These are just 5 small things that one can do to keep themselves entertained while going back home on Christmas break. I hope this helps and happy holidays!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
