After experiencing Halsey's Badlands tour, I can say that she is the cutest punk girl I have ever seen.
She tweeted before the kick off of the Badlands tour that if you went it would "kick your ass," and I can say she did not disappoint. From the first beat in "Gasoline" to the last confetti drop during "Colors," she captivated us all.
What is truly amazing is the fact that Halsey held our attention without any background dancers or vocalist. It was all her and her small band. However, her use of theatrics had no shortage. Between strobe lights and steam, she brought her A-game.
The entire time I was watching I couldn't help but think, "This is the same girl that had a miscarriage less than a month ago." She is truly a strong and powerful woman. The singer/songwriter knows how to write lyrics people can relate to and are very poetic.
Whenever I mention "Halsey," many tell me they have never heard of her and I just tell them that they are wrong. Everyone knows the hit party song of 2016, "Closer" by The Chainsmokers, they just don't realize the girl singing is Halsey. That "New Americana" song about legal marijuana? That was Halsey. And if you ever saw commercials for "Snow White and The Huntsman," you know "Castle," which was playing in the background. However, if you want some true poetic genius I suggest "Colors" or "Is There Somewhere."
Halsey even brought up very important social issues, including the recent shootings in Orlando that happened just a few weeks before her tour kicked off. She informed the crowd that if anyone would like to judge someone based on their sexuality, race, gender, ethnicity, religion, age, or anything else, then she had people that would love to escort them out. She truly cares for everyone.
She is normally very active on social media and even interacts with some fans. However, after her tour ended she posted nine plain white photos on Twitter and Instagram, she deleted her bio, changed her avi to a white screen, and tweeted two cryptic posts: "YOU CAN FIND ME IN THE KINGDOM..." followed with "(and the Kingdom)." Is this a hint that we have left the Badlands and found refuge in a kingdom?
One thing is for sure, we will wait with the comfort of Room 93 and Badlands until we see what the queen of alternative pop has in store for us in her kingdom.
