It's the day that every college freshman anticipates and hopes to survive: your first day of class. The first day of classes sets a precedent for how that class is going to go for you. So here is some tips on what to do on your first day.
1. Go to class.
Don't start the semester off on a bad note. Make sure you actually go to class. Sometimes your class will only last 15 minutes and will consist of your professor just going over the syllabus, so the first class is sometimes the best class.
2. Pick a good seat and don't change it.
When you go to class, the seat you pick will be the one you will most likely sit in for the rest of the semester, so choose wisely. Don't be that person who three weeks into class decides to change their seat.
3. Come prepared.
You never know what your professor is going to throw at you, so try to come the most prepared you can.
4. Know your syllabus.
Your syllabus is like your bible, you need to live by it. Your syllabus is the key to passing and doing well in the class.
5. Find a study buddy.
They will come in great use throughout the semester. You need to find someone that you will be able to copy notes from if you're absent. They will also be able to help you study for exams. The class will be that much better with them there.
6. Invest in a planner.
And actually use it! Once you start classes, it will be important that you put all of your assignments in and to check it regularly. Trust me, you will not remember everything on your own. A planner invests immensely. It will become your best friend!
