How To Survive Valentines Day When You're Single AF.

Unless you’re in a relationship, you probably hate Valentine’s Day with every ounce of your being, and that’s OK -- because I do too. This Hallmark holiday has got to be one of the most pointless days of the year; and I’m not only saying this because I’m the most painfully single person on the planet (all right... maybe a little bit.) But honestly, who created this “holiday,” anyway? Shouldn’t we show appreciation to our partner on every day of the year and not just on a day that was literally created to make money? Luckily for you, I’ve been single for the past 18 years, so you’re in good hands. Consider these guidelines while preparing for this Valentine’s Day.

1. Avoid Social Media.

Social media on any kind of holiday is probably the easiest way to wake up in a bad mood. I mean really, what’s the point? You’re just comparing your life to someone else’s solely based on what they post on a public platform. It’s deceiving and such a waste of time. And for the love of God, do not be one of those people who Tweet, Facebook or Instagram about how terrible it is to be single, no one actually cares. You’re being just as annoying -- if not more than the couples who constantly profess their love via social media. Just don’t do it.

2. Host a House Party.

Surround yourself with people you absolutely love! Host a party with all of your close friends who are just as single as you. Rent some movies or catch up on the latest episode of "The Bachelor." Spend your evening with people who make you laugh, and be thankful for everything you have.

3. Dance.

Just do it. Thank me later.

4. Play with Puppies.

Does it even need an explanation? Go to your local Petland or dog shelter and spend some time with some furry friends, because they'll never break your heart.

5. TREAT. YO. SELF.

Three words for you -- Treat. Yo. Self. You deserve the absolute freakin’ world. Don’t let some overrated holiday put a damper on your day. Hit up your local shopping mall and find an outfit that makes you feel bomb. Go get your nails done, get a massage and indulge in as much chocolate as you want. Make Valentine’s day your B****.

Whatever your plans are this Valentine's Day, always remember that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being single. There is no shame in loving yourself more than another person and being being the independent bada** b**** that you are.

Ten Truths Every Honors Student Knows
Photo by Poodar Chu on Unsplash

One of the main reasons I came to Salem State was I was offered a spot in the honors program. While it offered many benefits, scholarships and priority registration to name a few, what drew me in was the strong sense of community and close knit friendships many found. I am glad to say that that I did find these things, and so much more. I found a home made up of some of the most brilliant and most unique people I have ever met. Being in an honors program creates a college experience unlike any other and creates some universal truths that really only an honors student can fully understand.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?
