"I think it's very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not defined by another person." - Oscar Wilde

Valentine's day doesn't have to be a day of anti-love for the single people out there. Love is not defined to a relationship, so enjoy the day with friends and family.

Go out with friends

Friends are always going to be there for you, and there's no doubt you probably have one or two single acquaintances out there. Get a group together and go out, enjoy the day with the people you care about.

Watch a movie

This can be a movie at the theater (though there will be plenty of couples or one at home. You can go out with friends and do it alone, but either way, it's something to get your mind off of the day.

Have a self-care night

Start a bubble bath, put on a face mask, pour yourself a glass of wine and relax. It's always nice to treat yourself, but this day is perfect for it. For a holiday that's all about spreading love, do a little something for yourself.

Do everything you can to distract yourself

If you really are struggling with being single, then go out an do activities that will make you forget. You could also stay in and spend the day watching movies so your mind is always preoccupied, or play a board game with your friends. Honestly, the options are endless.

Spread the love to friends and family

Valentines day isn't only just for couples, it's also for anyone that you love. It's for friends and family, so show them some love and do something nice for them. They will surely appreciate it.

Watch cheesy rom-com's

It's a fun and easy way to laugh off the pain or boredom, so find a good list online and pop some popcorn while you watch the awkward interactions between the C.E.O and a barista.

Watch horror movies

If you want something a little less romantic and cheesy, go for a good horror film. It will take your mind off of anything that involves love.

Stuff your face with love themed candy

You can buy it the day of when it's full price, or you can wait the day after when it's all 50% off. Take advantage of the deals while you can.

Host a singles only party

Gather a bunch of people who are also single and do something fun! You could destroy Valentine's Day gifts, drink wine, watch movies, anything really.

 Hit the gym

Going to the gym is a good way to make yourself feel better, and hey, maybe you'll meet someone there as well. Anything is possible.

Go out to the bar, alone or with a friend

If you do go to the bar, be careful and be ready to get hit on if you're alone. If you go out with friends, have as much fun as you can and enjoy the night.

 Buy a furry friend

Okay, if this is a split second decision or you don't think you will be able to take care of the pet for the rest of its life, don't follow this suggestion. If you do know you can give the animal the quality of life it needs, pets can be incredibly good for your health and sanity.

Realize you don't need to be in a relationship to be happy

Work on yourself while you're single. You don't need to be with someone to feel complete and spend Valentine's Day focused on yourself or the friends and family around you. It's a day of love, but love comes in all forms.

A lot of people are in love with the idea of love, but we should practice self-love first. Enjoy Valentine's Day with your friends or yourself, and stop making it a day of sad thoughts.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
