7 Ways To Survive A Totally Boring Summer

Maybe all your friends are off on totally cool vacations, maybe you're home for the summer from college, or maybe you're stuck with your family and can't stand another second of it. Either way, we've all had those incredibly dull summers. Here's how you can survive yours.

1. Try to keep a positive outlook.

If you whine about how bored you are 24/7, you've already lost. Try to have a good attitude about your summer, because you could get a lot out of it, no matter what you're doing.

2. Learn something.

I know, I know, we're off school for a reason. But learning something can be a way to make your summer really worthwhile, no matter what it is. Learning a new sport, a new language or even just a new way to do your hair can make you feel like you're really accomplishing something. What's even better is that with YouTube and the internet, you can learn pretty much anything for free.

3. Crafting and DIY

As someone who used to hate crafting and now loves it, trust me on this one. It might seem lame, but it's actually a lot of fun. You can DIY basically anything, and it makes for great cheap gifts. You can paint a cooler, make cool room decorations, or customize a pair of jeans. The sky's the limit, or at least Pinterest is.

4. Exercise.

Staying active keeps your mind active, and it's good for you. There's no better time than the summer to get into a fitness routine since you don't have to worry about school.

5. Read.

I know for myself it's hard to find time during the school year to read for fun. So go to the library, pick up a big stack of books and try to read them all. It's good for your brain and fun.

6. Volunteer.

Not only is it good karma, it makes you feel good and looks great on a resume. Try to find a place you like volunteering at and stick to it, whether it be a camp for underprivileged children or a soup kitchen. Consistency is key for your resume!

7. Enjoy nature.

It might be a little hot out, but summer is the best time to go outside and immerse yourself in nature. Go on a hike, go camping or just look up every once in a while when you're catching Pokemon.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.
