Being sick while away from home is never a good feeling. You're far away from the comfort of home and from someone to take care of you while you feel like you're dying. On top of that, there are classes, review sessions, and meetings to attend and you feel like you just can't catch a break! Here are some survival tips for the days you just want to stay in bed and hope you feel better in time for the weekend.
1. Stock up on medicine.
DayQuil, NyQuil, Sudafed, Mucinex...Whatever it is you need, get lots of it. You will need all of it.
2. Get plenty of Vitamin C.
Drink Emergen-C or Airborne. This will help strengthen your immune system so you can fight your sickness quicker.
3. Drink tons of water.
Staying hydrated is key to a quick recovery.
4.Lysol is your friend.
Spray it. Spray it everywhere! Kill those nasty germs to prevent others from getting whatever illness you have.
5. Eat well.
It's important to eat healthy foods while you are sick so that you get more vitamins and minerals so you can start feeling better faster.
6. Light exercise.
This one consists of walking to class and walking to the bathroom. A little movement will help your circulation and your congestion; just make sure it's nothing too extreme. Rest is important!
7. Wash your hands!
Wash your hands so this doesn't happen. Also, showers are good too.
8. Keep tissues close to you at all times.
You're going to need them, trust me.
9. Make sure your bed is as comfy as possible.
Being comfortable in bed is key to feeling less like this. Get extra pillows and blankets, whatever it takes.
10. Rock the sweatpants.
If you have to go outside, wearing sweatpants is your best bet at staying both comfortable and warm.
11. Invest in a humidifier.
Humidifiers will help your nose and respiratory system when you're under the weather and are a great toy for cats.
12. Visit the Health Center.
This is literally a no-brainer. Just go and even if they say you just have a cold, they will give you cough drops, which brings me to number 13.
13. Cough drops can save you from embarrassment.
If you have to go to class, coughing the entire time is not only annoying to others but is distracting you from learning. Pack a few cough drops to have during class so your classmates don't have to side eye you the whole time.
14. Call your mom!
Calling your mom when you're sick can almost always make you feel a little bit better. She can help diagnose your symptoms and can tell you what to do to get on the path to health.
