No one tells you what college truly entails. College seems great on television. It's a never-ending party where you find your one true love and your roommate becomes your best friend for life. You never have to study or go to work. Let's not forget how big the dorm rooms are. Teachers do their best to prepare you for college in high school, but often fall short. Here are some tips to surviving college:
1. Always Be Ahead of Your Assignments
There is always an assignment due. If you procrastinate until the last minute, it can be overwhelming. Manage your time wisely.
2. Join an Organization
If you can join only one organization on campus, I strongly recommend it. Furthermore, make sure it is relevant to your major. You can make many connections and get a chance to network. Also, it will look good on your resume.
3. Drink Coffee
There are many times when coffee has saved my life. Sleep seemed like a distant memory between getting up for work early in the morning and going to class right afterwards. During the semester, caffeine is my favorite drug and Starbucks is my dealer.
4. Go to Class
First, you can miss valuable class material that can be on quizzes or tests. One of my professors used to show us videos that you surprisingly can not find on the Internet and make us write a paper on it. If you missed class that day then you missed out on twenty points. Also, going to class shows effort and work ethic. If you have an issue, the professor is more likely to help if you show that you're taking the class seriously. Moreover, it is likely that you will need a recommendation fom one of your professors in the future, therefore you should try and impress them.
5. Limit Your Partying
Parties should not be your main focus. Learn how to sort out your priorities. You do not want to be in class with a hangover or miss class because of one.
