A Surrendered Heart

Christlike love can not come from an unsurrendered heart.

If there's one thing that hurts my heart the most, it's when relationships and friendships that mean so much to you fall apart for what seems like no reason at all. When the friendship you've had since Kindergarten fizzles out during your Senior year of High School-- yeah that hurts and it's confusing.

But to me, what's even more confusing is why it's so hard to find a relationship, friendly or romantic, that can honestly withstand the tests of time, disagreements, and distance. If we're being honest, I have one friend who I can say has been significant in my life for more than 5 years. But if I were to try to count the amount of people I've been close to in the past 5 years, I wouldn't even be able to. Ask me where any of those people are today and I'd have no clue.

But, why? Aren't we intended and created for relationships?

Here's a picture:

Originally, in the beginning, our hearts are filled with this "love" that is selfish, dirty and worldly. We try to love someone and it just doesn't work. It doesn't feel right; it feels forced and superficial. We get frustrated and question why our relationships aren't working out. Why are our friendships falling apart? Why do these relationships that we are supposedly intended for feel so surface level and empty?

We know that it's a problem, but how do we fix it? How do we love each other better?

You surrender your heart to Jesus; you give it to Him and he cleans it. He takes away that worldly "love" and He fills your heart with His beautiful, selfless love. We can only love because He first loved us. We can't expect to love others the way Jesus did-- the way we are called to, until we have allowed Him to fill our hearts with His love. We do this by surrendering 100 percent of ourselves to Him. Christlike love can not come from an unsurrendered heart.

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." -1 John 4:7

Today, I encourage you to consciously surrender your heart to the one who loves you so perfectly.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.
