Many times in life we experience unforeseen medical conditions out of our control. Recently, I’ve been battling with my own. I’ve noticed that I am not the only one going through this. There is no telling how many students in your class are also going through similar circumstances. Our own Eagle, Lexi Murry, KKG Sister, was diagnosed with cancer last year. As many know, it always hits us harder when we hear about these devastating conditions so close to us. A year later, she is free of abnormalities and positive about her future.
Medical conditions are not affecting us only physically, but also mentally. Through my unexpected surgeries this year, I have also been battling depression and anger issues. Through doctors support and medication, I have come to a place where I’ve accepted what I can and can’t control.
I hope anyone struggling out there understands that you are not alone. If your circumstances can be managed, please seek out help at the Counseling Services on campus. They have wonderful doctors and therapists who are eager to help you through whatever difficult situation life has thrown you.
If there is one thing I have learned about dealing with these stressful points in your life is the importance of relying on family. Through this process my mom has been by my side for every surgery, doctor’s appointment, etc. Lean on your family. Lean on your friends, your fraternity/sorority, even your pets.
Most importantly, never give up. If you’re facing one of these hard medical circumstances just remember that this too shall pass. Very few things in life are permanent. These times are no exception. Fly high, Eagles.
