Today around 1 p.m., a crazed gun man started shooting at the people occupying terminal one at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Fort Lauderdale. The shooter shot a total of 13 people during his shooting spree, injuring 13 and killing five.
Witnesses say that the man was aiming for the heads during his spree. Now you are wondering how this man successfully entered a terminal with a loaded weapon and got through customs.
The 26-year-old gunman, named Estaban Santiago, carrying a military I.D., and has his weapon, checked in getting off of a Canadian flight and went to go get his luggage from baggage claim. After he got his bag he went into the restroom where he took out his weapon, loaded it and unloaded his weapon as soon as he stepped out of the restroom. When he ran out, he reloaded and then continued to fire.
Branches of the military are going through their databases to find out for sure if this man full of hatred is part of the military, with only the Coast Guard so far confirming he is not part of their branch. Witnesses have stated that the man was very calm while committing this terrifying act, showing no remorse as he gunned down innocent people who were running for their lives, abandoning their luggage and running out to the tarmac where they were evacuated to.
The gun man was chased down into the parking garage of the airport, where he was eventually put into custody unharmed, and is now being interviewed.
The shooter acted alone and right now police have not yet found the motive of this violent act, with not a lot of information released because the attack just recently happened.
SWAT teams are now sweeping the airport for anymore threats, while thousands of people shake fearing for their lives and their family’s lives. Witnesses are not allowed to leave, and over 22,000 flights are delayed as well as landed flights that must be parked on the tarmac and not be unloaded.
A horrible event on a beautiful South Florida day, starting off the first week of the new year with fear and terror. Please pray for the people and their families who were affected by the new tragedy and please stay tuned with updates.
